Students Get Their Hands On Civil Engineering

EAST LANSING, MI (WLNS) – About 160 students at MacDonald Middle School in East Lansing got a lesson in civil engineering Monday.

Students built a road in a box. They were put into teams of about 10 to see if they could make pavement in a box.

Organizers say it’s a great way to see how classroom learning works in the real world.

“Well I think at this stage what we want to do is we want to translate to the kids some excitement as to what it means to be for example, in our case, a civil engineer,” said Dr. Karim Chatti, professor of civil engineering, MSU.

The event was sponsored by MSU’s College of Engineering.
